Creative Rusholme community dedication of 47 Trees planted in memory of Sir Gerald Kaufman MP

Sir Gerald Kaufman's nephew, Brian Selby, planting the 47th tree, a hawthorn, in the grounds of Birch Community Centre

On 21st June, the summer solstice and what would have been Sir Gerald’s 91st birthday, the Rusholme community gathered to walk the 46 trees planted and to invite Sir Gerald’s nephew to plant the final tree in the grounds of Birch Community Centre.

Afzal Khan MP, Sir Gerald’s successor, also planted a small leaved lime in Birchfields Park to launch Rusholme 470, a project to go on to plant another 470 trees in the neighbourhood over the next three years.

Find out more about the project on the Creative Rusholme Website.
